ARTISTIC STATEMENT
There is a wonderful serenity and peace that I feel when I find my-self in vast and open spaces. It speaks, I think, of the correct balance between man and our world and where we fit in the broader scheme of things.
My first such experience was during time my husband and I spent in Colorado and the four corners area of the United States. The next adventure took us to Lima, Peru for four years. To my amazement and delight my response to the land was the same. The world is big and I am small and that is the way it is and this is a good thing!
And then came our move (regrettably still part time) to Collingwood, north of Toronto. The scale and beauty of the landscape in the Georgian Triangle brings forward the same emotions. The simple and overwhelming grandeur of the land are certainly an integrated part of what inspires my paintings and hopefully, the joy I feel when I am in such settings come through in my work. Sometimes these feelings are almost childlike and joyful; at times more spiritual and full of awe.
Trying to capture these feelings on canvas is an ongoing challenge.
It is a true joy to paint and always a challenge to try to get it right.
